Feeling Lost After Moving Abroad?

It's fun but also chaotic

You miss your old life more then you thought you would. And while you feel very grateful for the opportunity, you also cry a lot because you feel lost and confused on how to feel like you belong.

It's a bit lonely

Your partner has work, structure, colleagues - while your days feel repetitive.

And although you promised to keep in touch with your friends and family, the time difference makes it harder than expected.

Second Guessing

You may be wondering, if moving was a mistake – not only for the kids, but also for you.

Your brain won’t stop running scenarios: Moving back home, try a different country?

Identity shifts

You sometimes wonder where YOU went in all of this... marriage, motherhood and career.

You might feel a bit stuck and question, is this it? What am I supposed to do here?

Marriage, motherhood and career - relocation changes more than your address

As you grow, your marriage may need to grow with you. For many women, their 30s and 40s bring a shift - old dynamics no longer fit, and often we re-evaluate our needs within marriage or even wonder how to continue the relationship.

Becoming a mother is one of the most profound identity shifts a woman goes through - there’s even a word for it: matrescence.
You maybe feel stretched between love and grief, especially without your village.

You may have stepped away from your career - but the desire to create, to realise your potential and build something meaningful remains. As an expat it’s often not clear how to express that wish - work visas, childcare and time lines can make things difficult.

Add menopause to the mix - and it makes sense why especially expat women seek support.

When you know this chapter might only last a few years, long-term clarity becomes even more important.

How do you want to spend the next 10 years?

Why is expat life different?

The challenge is creating a sense of continuity in a life that is transient.

Woman journaling to gain clarity and make plans

When you live internationally, everything shifts. Your home. Your routines. Your children’s school. Your friendships. Even the timeline in your mind - because somewhere you know that this chapter may only last a few years.

You build a life while knowing it might dissolve again. Over time, that constant movement can unsettle your sense of direction and purpose. That’s why my work is about helping you build something within yourself that travels with you.

Together we establish a sense of clarity and purpose that holds across cities, relationships and life stages. Something that grounds you in you.

We find ways to make this new place your home and express your purpose in a way that aligns with your circumstances and goals.

I love seeing women build unconventional lifes -

and I’d love to support you in building yours.

Hi, I am Franziska

Franziska Teo, Swiss licensed psychotherapist and life coach for expat women in Singapore

I am a Swiss licensed psychotherapist, life coach and mother of two small kids.

I have worked with clients for 10+ years and offer online sessions for value-led women who are ready for their next chapter.

As an expat mother, I can relate…

Two years ago I left my safe - but admittedly lonely - life in Switzerland to create something more aligned and exciting. So our family moved to Johor Bahru to join my Malaysian husband’s family.

I deeply understand what it means to question who you are becoming in the middle of motherhood, marriage and relocation. And believe me I still struggle some days.

That’s why I love supporting women in creating a life that feels aligned with their purpose.

You don’t have to choose between a spacious life and the desire to feel deeply rooted.

Both can co-exist.

What we can work through

  • Feeling stuck after a career break

  • Questioning your purpose

  • The difficulties of being “the trailing spouse”

  • Anxiety and emotional burden of moving abroad

  • Identity shifts after motherhood

  • Marriage tensions that surface during transitions

  • The sense that you’ve outgrown your old life, but don’t know what’s next

My approach is integrative and grounded in professional training.

I completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Psychology at the University of Zurich, followed by four additional years of postgraduate psychotherapy training (MAS in Psychotherapy, ZHAW).

My work is:

  • Trauma-informed and evidence-based

  • Feminist and culturally aware

  • Attentive to nervous system regulation

  • Grounded in a systemic framework, with elements of CBT and solution-focused work

  • Weight neutral and LGBTQ+ affirming

I combine psychological depth with the practical forward movement of coaching.

FAQ

  • This is a coaching package for expat women.

It’s different from therapy because it’s much more structured, focused and future-oriented.

This process is designed to help you get clear on what you want, create actionable steps and have an accountability partner to support you along the way.

That said, I am a trained and licensed psychotherapist — and that very much shapes how I work.

It means I recognize patterns and internal narratives quickly. I can hold space when things get heavier than expected.

My background brings the necessary depth to our sessions to create long-lasting change and a space where you feel comfortable experimenting and exploring.

Please take note: This program is not suitable for the treatment of mental health conditions.

  • First of all — I’m not coming at this from the outside, I am an expat mother myself.

I know what it means to rebuild your identity in a new country. I know how quickly your sense of purpose can wobble when your environment keeps changing.

And I’m very familiar with the feeling of having to “enjoy the adventure” when oftentimes you just want everything to feel predictable and easy again.

Living abroad requires intention. And courage. Over and over again.

I created this process from my experience as a psychotherapist working primarily with women and mothers.

My approach isn’t generic life coaching. It’s structured and comes from lived experience.

We assess your patterns, your current reality and your actual possibilities — we build a road map that you can follow step by step.

  • Yes — all sessions are held online via Zoom.

Many women find online sessions practical and time-efficient, especially while managing family, work or life abroad.

It allows you to join from any space where you feel comfortable and undisturbed.

  • Yes, absolutely!

All sessions are held online via Zoom, which means you can join from wherever you are.

I work with expat women living internationally — including clients based in Singapore, Malaysia, Switzerland, the UK and other parts of the world.

This program is designed for women navigating mobility, relocation and life across countries. As long as you have a stable internet connection and a quiet space, we can work together.

  • The core package includes 6 sessions, usually spread over 8–12 weeks.

For many women, this is enough time to gain clarity on what they truly want and to experience change in their everyday life.

The goal isn’t to create dependency. It’s to start a process you can continue carrying forward on your own — with confidence and self-trust.

If, at the end of the process, you feel you want more support, I’m happy to keep working with you. We decide that together, based on what you need.

  • Yes — because our time together is limited, and I know you want to get the most out of this experience.

As soon as we decide to work together, I’ll send you a workbook that will accompany you throughout the process.

It contains reflections and guiding questions to help you get as clear as possible on the goals you want to focus on.

Most sessions will also end with insights that lead to some kind of experiment, observation task or tool to try out — something you can practice right away.

We use the time between sessions intentionally, not just the time we spend on Zoom.

  • Life as an expat can be overwhelming and can absolutely bring up feelings of anxiety.

Providing the emotional support you need and giving your nervous system a break is very much something we can work on.

I don’t expect you to have it all figured out. It’s okay if you come in feeling anxious — even crying. If it were easy, you would have figured it out already. Living abroad asks a lot of you emotionally, even when you chose this life.

However, if you are experiencing severe anxiety, panic attacks or symptoms that significantly impact your daily functioning, therapy would be the more appropriate support.

  • Of course. Not knowing is often exactly why women reach out.

Every woman has a different starting point.

Some struggle to define their direction. Others know where they want to go but carry self-limiting beliefs. Some simply need an accountability partner or someone to tame the chaos in their head.

This process is designed to meet you where you are. It accounts for your individuality, your situation and your strengths.

  • Of course I will be there for you if you still need more support.

You’re welcome to come back anytime for reflection or guidance as your life continues to evolve.
